CBI books FIR against Maha minister's son

The CBI took the case after being ordered to do so by the Bombay High Court on Mar 24 in response to a petition filed by Chintu Shaikh, who says Rane had shot him at the NGO Swabhiman Sanghatana's office last September.

Shaikh had alleged that, Narayan Rane, a member of the ruling Congress party in the state, was interfering with the investigations by the Crime Branch of Mumbai Police so it should be handed over to the federal investigating agency.

In his orignial complaint, Shaikh had said that on Sep 23 Nitesh, who was apparently upset over something, had shot him twice at the NGO's Khar office and the bullet grazed his cheek causing injury.
