Defending champion and Indian chess icon Viswanathan Anand is all set to play with black pieces in the first game of the 12-round World Chess Championship against Magnus Carlsen of Norway here on Saturday.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday declared open the FIDE World Championship Match 2013 between Anand and his opponent from Norway.
During the draw of lots, the Chief Minister picked the photograph of the Indian chess icon from the first bowl and a black piece from the other.
Anand has won World Championship matches in 2000, 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2012.
"J. Jayalalithaa also released the official souvenir and conducted a draw of lots in the presence of Chief Arbiter of the Match," FWCM Chennai 2013 website said.
"Anand will play black, Carlsen will be white in game one on 9th November," it said.
