The committee, which will look into whether the killing of Rahul Raj yesterday could have be avoided, will submit its report to the Centre at the earliest, he said at Latur airport this evening while proceeding to his home in Babhulgaon.

He added that the inquiry was ordered not because of any political pressure and that the probe will be carried out impartially.

When asked about reports that there was strain in relations between Maharashtra and Bihar after the incident and that leaders of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are uniting against Maharashtrians, he said there was no such front.

Deshmukh, however, admitted that north Indians residing in Maharashtra are feeling insecure. He asked them not to panic and assured that the Sate would take all necessary measures to strenghten security ahead of Chhat Puja.

He observed that there is a need for restoring the cosmopolitan culture of the state and the government is bound to give security to all those staying in Mumbai.
