China has voiced deep regret over North Korea's rocket launch and joined the rest of the UN security council in condemning the move.

The US has asked China to exert its influence on North Korea after the impoverished nation carried out an apparently successful long-range rocket launch.

According to, the US raised North Korea's launch as Lieutenant General Qi Jianguo, deputy chief of the general staff of the People's Liberation Army, visited the Pentagon on Wednesday for annual defence talks between the Pacific powers.

The White House called the launch a 'highly provocative act that threatens regional security,' and even the North's most important ally, China, expressed regret, the report said.

Meanwhile, in Pyongyang, North Koreans clinked beer mugs and danced in the streets to celebrate the country's first satellite in space.

The million dollars rocket launch comes as North Korea, on of the world's poorest country, struggles to feed its people. (ANI)
