A Chinese official has reportedly been expelled from the Communist party and is facing charges, after public outrage over images showing him grinning at the scene of a 2012 fatal bus crash.
Yang Dacai, who had been sacked in September 2012 by officials in Shaanxi province for alleged wrongdoing, was seen smiling at the accident site where 36 people were killed, in photos posted on the Internet, BBC News reports.
However, Dacai defended himself saying that although he was depressed when he reached the scene, he may have got a little carried away while trying to cheer up his junior officials who had appeared nervous while they were updating him on the situation.
Dacai also defended himself against images showing him wearing luxury watches, and said that he had used his own income to buy the watches, adding that the most expensive one he owned was worth 35,000 yuan. (ANI)
