Panaji, Nov 24 (IBNS) Cinema is a sacred medium and a filmmaker must take it to the highest level of communication, said well-known poet and filmmaker Muzaffar Ali.

He was talking to journalists at Media Centre on the sidelines of 43rd International Film Festival of Goa on Saturday.

Filmmaking is a journey through which enrichment is achieved, he added.

As a first time initiative a special section namely 'Soul of Asia' is introduced in this festival, in which films based on different philosophies such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, Zen, Confucianism, Sufism and others has been included.

This section was inaugurated with the screening of the film 'Samsara' directed by Pan Nalin.

He said that this is his first film and fully shot in Laddakh.

It was a long, full of struggle journey, he said.

It is a big challenge to find producers for films based on spiritual theme, he narrated.

Other films namely 'Confucius' by Hu Mei, 'Light of Asia' by Himanshu Rai and Franz Osten, 'Meetings with Remarkable Men' by Peter Brook, 'Mystic Iran: The Unseen World' by Aryana Farshad, 'Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter & Spring' by Kim Ki-Duk, 'The Buddha' by David Grubin, 'The Burmese Harp' by Kon Ichikawa and 'The Great Pilgrim' by Jin Tiemu, will be screened during the Festival.

Initially world scenario was considered but finally confined to Asia for curating this package on spiritual and mysticism theme, said Curator Meera Dewan.

It was a difficult task to curate films on mysticism and getting them before the audience, she added.

Noted producer Suresh Jindal and Sculptor Shakti Maira also communicated with the journalists about their experience.
