Madhepura, Bihar, Dec 3 (IBNS): As several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders backed Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the main opposition party's Prime Ministerial candidate for 2014 polls, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Monday added pressure on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and said he should express his stand on the matter.

Speaking to media, Yadav said: "Several top BJP leaders have now gone public to stamp their approval for Modi´s projection as the party´s prime ministerial candidate....Nitish Kumar should make it clear whether he is going to endorse their stand or oppose it."

Yadav was speaking to media in Madhepura district during his Parivartan Yatra.

BJP leaders Gopinath Munde and Sushma Swaraj have recently backed Modi as the main opposition party´s prime ministerial candidate for 2014 polls.

"Narendra Modi is capable of becoming PM...He has potential of becoming PM," Munde said in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Munde´s comment came a day after Swaraj´s first open endorsement for Modi during her visit to canvas for the party in Gujarat ahead of the Assembly polls.

"There is no two opinion that he is most capable and ideal candidate to be the Prime Minister of India," she said.

Senior BJP leader LK Advani has praised Modi and said he was a "role mdoel" for chief ministers of other states.

Pertinently, the candidature of Modi as the BJP´s prime ministerial candidate for 2014 is a debatable issue owing to protests by other National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners like Nitish Kumar´s Janata Dal (United) , but with top BJP leaders naming him, the support in favour of Modi only swelled.

Earlier suspended BJP leader Ram Jethmalani spoke in favour of Modi.
