Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is warning Pakistan that it risks major instability and hampering the war effort in Afghanistan unless it implements broad reforms and stops fomenting anti-American sentiment.
In a speech Friday in New York, Clinton said Pakistani cooperation is critical to the success of the fight against Taliban and al-Qaida extremists in neighboring Afghanistan.
Clinton spoke amid an escalating diplomatic crisis with Pakistan over the killing of two Pakistanis by an American who was employed by the U.S. Embassy.
