Cold wave continues in Himachal

Shimla, Jan 5 (IANS) The cold wave continued to grip Himachal Pradesh Saturday with the higher reaches experiencing temperatures below freezing point.

But the days are balmy across the state owing to sunny days, a meteorological official told IANS here.

Saturday's minimum temperature in Shimla was recorded at 0.6 degrees Celsius, two degrees below the average for this time of the year.

The minimum temperature in Manali settled at -1.8 degrees Celsius, while it was -4.4 degrees in Kalpa in Kinnaur district and -7.1 degrees in Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district.

Dharamsala, the seat of Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, saw a low of 5.2 degrees Celsius.

Most of the prominent tourist towns like Shimla, Kasauli, Narkanda, Kufri, Manali, Dharamsala, Palampur and Dalhousie have been experiencing sunny days, the official said.

The Met Office has forecast mainly dry weather in the state in the next few days.
