A cold wave sweeping through Himachal Pradesh, and particularly through its Kullu District, has left residents of the region distressed.
The minimum temperature recorded in the night was zero degrees Celsius in Kullu district of the state and a common sight was of people sitting around bonfires, wearing woollens, to warm themselves.
Mahender Singh, a resident, said on Sunday that the dipping mercury is causing water to freeze particularly in mornings and evenings.
"The mercury has dipped significantly. Also there has been no rainfall till now. It's particularly cold in the mornings and the evenings. Now even water has started to freeze," said Singh.
The cold wave turned to be a boon for the roadside tea vendors as people were seen sipping hot tea.
Although not cold by the standards of Europe and North America, the drop in temperature can have a devastating effect on the hundreds of thousands of homeless people in India. (ANI)
