Bangalore: A complete liquor prohibition in Karnataka is not possible, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda said on Thursday.
Speaking at a round table meeting of religious leaders against alcoholism, hosted by Karnataka State Temperance Board, he stressed the need to step up awareness on its ill-effects.
Gowda noted that the Government had banned sale of arrack, but unfortunately the step has resulted in manufacture of spurious liquor.
People need to kick the habit voluntarily, the Chief Minister said, and expressed happiness over involvement of religious leaders in the campaign against alcoholism.
