Birbhum, West Bengal, June 23 (IBNS): Confusion persists about senior Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee's resignation as the Union Finance Minister, with the United Progressive Alliance (UPA)'s Presidential candidate first saying he will demit office on Sunday, but later said at his ancestral home here that he would remain the Finance Minister till June 26.
"I will be the Finance Minister till June 26," Pranab Mukherjee said at Mirati in his ancestral home in West Bengal´s Birbhum district on Saturday.
Mukherjee earlier on Saturday said he will resign from his post on June 24.
"Perhaps, this is my last visit to Kolkata as Finance Minister because I am going to demit my office on 24th (June 24)," Mukherjee told reporters here on Saturday.
He said he will not be able to make comments on matters related to the UPA government or the Congress.
"And after that I will not be able to speak anything either on government or on party matters," he said.
The Presidential election is scheduled to take place on July 19.
