Siddaramaiah has been the deputy chief minister of the state twice.
He used to be part of the Janata Dal-Secular party. He left the JD (S) to join the Congress in 2006 - a fact tat has lead within the Congress to see him as an outsider.
Born in 1948, Siddaramaiah is an advocate and a member of the Kuruba community. He entered politics in 1978 and first entered the Assembly in 1983.
