Congress elects Siddaramaiah as new Karnataka CM

Bangalore: Siddarmaiah will be the next chief minister of Karnataka, after winning an internal election held between the Congress MLAs. The official announcement will be made soon. 

Mallikarjuna Kharge, the other leading aspirant, won only about 30 votes

An official announcement will be made soon. The swearing-in ceremony will be mostly on May 13. 

Siddaramaiah has been the deputy chief minister of the state twice. 

He used to be part of the Janata Dal-Secular party. He left the JD (S) to join the Congress in 2006 - a fact tat has lead within the Congress to see him as an outsider. 

Born in 1948, Siddaramaiah is an advocate and a member of the Kuruba community. He entered politics in 1978 and first entered the Assembly in 1983.
