Congress for statutory status for poll code

New Delhi, Feb 13 (IANS) The Congress Monday suggested that the model code of conduct for polls could be made statutory, that is enforceable by law, as part of electoral reforms.

"When the wider framework of electoral reforms are discussed, the model code could be considered to be made statutory," Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari told reporters while answering questions on the row between the Election Commission and Law Minister Salman Khurshid over his statement for sub-quota for backward sections among minorities.
