Mumbai: According a Mid-Day report, Congress workers forced a restaurant to close in Parel, Mumbai on Sunday as the owner printed and gave away bills with a note criticizing the UPA government to the customers.

The restaurant, known as Aditi Pure Veg, is located on Dr E Borges Road opposite KEM Hospital in Parel, Mumbai. A case has also been lodged against the owner.

Angered at the UPA's new service tax on restaurants with AC, the owner printed up a special set of bills to vent his feelings. The owner told Mid Day that the new taxes forced him to give up on the AC in his restaurant and was also causing him losses.

The bills from the restaurant featured the following phrase below the items purchased by the customer -

"As per the UPA Govt eating money (2G, Coal, CWG scam) is a necessity & eating food in AC restaurant is a luxury"

Protesting and agitating Congress workers later forced him to close his restaurant.

"If it is political browbeating, every action has an unequal, over-the-board reaction." The owner of Aditi restaurant, Srinivas Shetty, told Mid-day.

"It’s been 15 days since I got this thing printed on the bills, and many customers came and congratulated me. In fact, I had thought of this idea when the law enforcing service tax at all AC restaurants came out. I wanted to do it for a long time," he added.

He says that he chose this way since the government did not pay heed to their association when they went to discuss the matter with them.

The Association for Hotels And Restaurants (AHAR) has left him to fend for himself.

Although he has gathered the support of Narendra Modi, who tweeted in support of the owner, declaring the move "height of intolerance".
