Cook leads England's fightback after Ojha's fifer

Ahmedabad, Nov 17 (IBNS) Left arm spinner Pragyan Ojha picked five wickets to put India on top with a massive 330-run lead before England staged a fightback with skipper Alastair Cook scoring an unbeaten 74 while following on the third day of the first cricket Test at the Sardar Patel Stadium, Motera here Saturday.

A brilliant spell by Ojha (5/45) and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin (3/80) bowled out England for 191 as India enforced the follow-on. England were 111 for no loss in the second innings with Cook batting on 74 and debutant Nick Compton on 34.

Resuming at 41 for three, England were bowled out just before the tea break. It was Ojha´s fourth five-wicket haul in his 17th Test.

England´s miseries were far from over on the third day. They were reduced to 110 for seven at lunch. But they fought back with Matt Prior (48) and Tim Bresnan (19) with their 47-run stand.

Prior was the top scorer while captain Cook scored 41 in the first innings.

While following-on, England staged a valiant fight-back with Cook and debutant Compton, who was out for nine in the first innings, put on an unbeaten century stand for avoiding an innings defeat.

Ojha and Ashwin, who posed problems for the English batsmen in the first innings, couldn´t pose problem for them in the second innings.
