Mumbai: A Mumbai court on Monday granted bail two Maharashtra Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) who were arrested for thrashing a policeman last Tuesday.

Both Ram Kadam and Kshitij Thakur were granted bail on a surety of Rs. 15,000 each.

The MLAs will have to appear before the Mumbai Crime Branch once a week, reports said.

Kadam and Thakur had surrendered before the Mumbai Police on Thursday.

A First Information Report (FIR) was recorded against Kadam, Thakur and 14 others on Mar 19 for allegedly thrashing Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Suryavanshi inside the state Assembly premises.

Five Maharashtra MLAs were later suspended from the state Assembly till Dec 31 for allegedly thrashing Suryavanshi.

According to reports, Kshitij Thakur, Ram Kadam, Rajan Salvi, Jaikumar Rawal and Pradeep Jaiswal allegedly slapped and punched Suryavanshi.

The legislators reportedly got agitated following Bahujan Vikas Aghadi MLA Kshitij Thakur's accusations against the cop of breach of privilege and allegations that he had also abused him.

While several political members demanded the suspension of the cop, some of them rushed to the visitor's gallery and allegedly thrashed him.
