The mother of the two-year-old baby Falak, who was abandoned in a gruesome state in Delhi, has been traced and will undergo a DNA test to ascertain whether she is the biological mother of the child, police said.
Officials say the discovery of the young woman named Munni, who has admitted to being the mother, comes as a major breakthrough, in the case of the of the battered baby, that has shocked the nation and sparked outrage.
Police reportedly tracked the woman in Rajasthan about a week ago and has been brought to Delhi on Monday, based on the statement of her employer Lakshmi, who claims that Munni left Falak with her in September and disappeared.
The 22-year-old woman, who claims to already have two other children, is said to have told the police that she was married to a man who forced her into prostitution and so she ran away last year.
Falak's shocking tale came to the fore after she was brought to AIIMS on Jan 18 by a 14-year-old girl in a bruised and battered condition with severe head injuries, fractures and human bite marks all over her.
