Court, police act against Owaisi

Hyderabad, Jan 3 (IBNS) A court in Hyderabad on Thursday directed the police to register a case against Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) leader and MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi for his hate speech against Hindus at a rally last month.

Latest reports said a case has been registered suo moto under Section 153A of Indian Penal Code (IPC) by a police station at Nirmal town of Adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh where he had made the speech about ten days ago.

While the court acted strong, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy also said he would act as per law to book Owaisi for his remarks.

MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, who in a hate speech recently allegedly urged Muslims to take up arms against the Hindus, is in dock with legal proceedings beginning against him on Wednesday after filing of a case, even though reports said he has since been in London.

Akbaruddin Owaisi is the brother of MIM chief and Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi.

The complaint against him in court was earlier filed citing Section 295A and 153A of Indian Penal Code that call such acts as malicious and hurtful to other religion besides promoting enmity between groups.

Advocate Kashimshetty Karuna Sagar, who filed the complaint, said he also faces threats for filing the case.

An Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate´s court Wednesday heard the complaint of Karunasagar and had reserved its judgement for Thursday.

According to media reports, on Dec 24, Owaisi addressed a massive rally at Nirmal town of Adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh. where he allegedly slammed Hindu outfits and parties like BJP, RSS, VHP and leaders like Narendra Modi of Gujarat and even said that 250 million Muslims in India can show to 1 billion Hindus who is more powerful.

Liberal Muslims have slammed Owaisi for his remarks and even celebrity Muslims like Shabana Azmi or Farhan Akhtar were vocal.

Actor and filmmaker Farhan Akhtar tweeted: "How can 2 girls be arrested in less than 24 hrs for a harmless FB post but Owaisi roams free after his blatantly communal rant?"

Shabana Azmi tweeted that the fight should now be between liberal Muslims and Hindus on one side and extremist Hindus and Muslim on the other side.

"Owaisi´s hate speech must not go unpunished," she said.
