A Delhi court on Thursday granted an anticipatory bail to seek Zee Group Chairman Subhash Chandra and his son Punit Goenka in the alleged extortion case filed by Congress MP and industrialist Naveen Jindal.

Subhash Chandra had moved an anticipatory bail plea before the Saket Court yesterday, a day after Delhi Police asked him to join investigations in connection with the alleged extortion bid by two editors of his channel.

Sudhir Chaudhary, editor of Zee News, and Samir Ahluwalia, editor of Zee Business, were arrested on last week on charges of trying to extort Rs. 100 crore from Jindal to drop news reports on a coal scam linked to his firm Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL).

Jindal had last month released a CD in which purportedly showed footage in which Zee journalists were trying to strike a deal with his company officials, telling them that their channel will not air negative stories of the Jindal Group if the money is paid to them.

JSPL is among the companies named in the CAG report as one of the beneficiaries of the controversial coal block allocations. (ANI)
