Mumbai: Two cousins were on Thursday killed after unidentified men barged into a shop they used to work in and fired at them at Girgaon in South Mumbai, police said.

Two assailants barged into the shop near Bharat Steel Yard at Khetwadi area and fired at Lalchand Bishnoi (35) and his brother Ratnakar (40), killing the former on the spot, Joint Police Commissioner (Law & Order) Rajnish Seth said.

Ratnakar succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment, police said.

One bullet hit Lalchand's chest, while the other hit Ratnakar's leg, police said adding that the two were rushed to nearby Harikishandas hospital, where the former was declared brought dead.

Preliminary probe suggests the assailants did not come to rob the shop, they said adding that police are looking at the possibility of an extortion attempt or some personal enmity.

The two shooters had come and escaped on foot, police said adding that the assailants had dropped one of their weapons, a country-made pistol before making their escape, which has been seized, police said.

With the help of other employees of the shop, police are making sketches of the accused, they said.
