
New Delhi: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has asked West Bengal government to provide information on the measures taken to control crib deaths in state-run hospitals.
"We have sought the details from the State Government on the measures initiated to tackle the situation," NCPR member Vinod Kumar Tikoo said.
He added that the Commission would intervene in the matter only after receipt of the information from the state government.
An official statement from the NCPCR said that it had asked for details of the mechanism to deal with identification of high risk pregnancies, their timely referral and promotion of institutionalised deliveries from the state government.
The NCPCR has also asked the state government to give information about arrangements made to strengthen the infrastructure and required number of trained personnel in primary health centres, its sub-centres and anganwadi centres.
The Commission has also asked the state government to provide registration details of pregnant women from anganwadis for 75 deaths reported in Malda District Hospital between October 1 to November 23, 2011 and also of the 12 deaths reported in B C Roy Hospital.
