Cuba says islanders will soon be able to access the Internet at public cyber-salons around the country, at least if they have the money to pay.

Starting June 4, people can sign up for accounts to use one of the 118 Web centers.

The few islanders who currently go online usually do so through work or school accounts. Most are only able to get onto a Cuban intranet system rather than the full Worldwide Web.

Official newspaper Juventud Rebelde says the cost will be $4.50 per hour. That's a steep price for Cubans who make $20 a month on average from jobs at state agencies.

The measure was enacted Tuesday with its publication in the government's Official Gazette.
