The government and public sector undertakings has been asked by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) to adopt e-tendering to reduce corruption in public service delivery systems.

Replying to a question brought up in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, Minister of State for Personnel and Public Grievance V Narayanasamy said in a written reply that the government has been emphasing the use of modern technology to bring about transparency and accountability in all state organisations.

He said the CVC has recommended adoption of e-payments and other measures for reduction of person-to-person interface while making payments.

"The use of computers in the railways and in the income tax department are good examples of the salutary effects modern technology has had on reducing corruption in both the organisations" he said.

To a question on use of technology to minimise corruption in day to day life, Narayanasamy said the use of modern information and communication technology can reduce direct contact between citizens and public servants and thus reduce the scope of corruption. (ANI with inputs)
