New Delhi, Dec 21 (IBNS) Former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (CWGOC) chairman Suresh Kalmadi and 10 others, including former secretary general of CWGOC Lalit Bhanot, were charged on Friday by a Delhi court with corruption, theft and conspiracy in a case of the scam around the 2010 sporting carnival.
Patiala House court judge Talwant Singh will pass orders on the charges against the ten, reports said.
The court has fixed Jan 10 as the deadline for framing of charges against them formally.
They were chargesheeted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for anomalies in awarding contract to a Swiss firm.
Suresh Kalmadi was behind bars for nine months after the CBI arrested him in April 2011 on charges of awarding illegal contracts to a Swiss firm for Timing-Scoring-Result (TSR) system for the 2010 Commonwealth Games causing a loss of Rs 95 crore to the exchequer.
Bhanot was also arrested earlier and they all are now free on bail granted in January this year.
Besides Kalmadi and Bhanot others who are charged are OC´s former Director General VK Verma, former Director General (Procurement) Surjit Lal, former Joint Director General (Sports) ASV Prasad and former Treasurer M Jayachandran.
Two others charged are promoters of two construction companies- PD Arya and AK Madan
