New Delhi, Jan 19 (IBNS) After more than nine months, Congress lawmaker and sports administrator Suresh Kalmadi was granted bail in the Commonwealth Games corruption case on Thursday by the Delhi High Court.
Kalmadi, who was the CWG Organizing Committee chief but was later sacked after allegations of financial irregularities and poor organization of the Games flew thick and fast against, had to furnish a surety of Rs 5 lakh.
Another accused in the CWG scam, V K Verma also got bail, reports said.
Kalmai is lodged in the Tihar Jail and he might walk out of the prison soon now.
In April last year, Kalmadi was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on charges of awarding illegal contracts to a Swiss firm for Timing-Scoring-Result (TSR) system for the 2010 Commonwealth Games causing a loss of Rs 95 crore to the exchequer.
