Tibet's exiled spiritual leader Dalai Lama said that the his successor can be a woman though he is not in a hurry to announce the name of the next spiritual leader.
"A female Dalai Lama will be more effective, more useful in the promotion of human values," Lama told NDTV.
The exiled spiritual leader said that he is no hurry to name is successor and might wait for another ten years before taking a decision on the matter.
"I am in no hurry to name successor...wait ten years and then finalize the decision,"
Recently, the Dalai Lama visited Bodh Gaya to lead the 32nd Kalchakra teachings.
Thousands of devotees from around the world had assembled in Bodh Gaya to be part of the spiritual event.
The Nobel Peace Prize winner said that he felt relieved after giving up his political leadership of the the Tibetans in 2011.
"I feel much happier, much calm today after handing over political power. The day I officlally handed over, I had an unusual sound sleep on that night," he said.
