New Delhi, Dec 26 (IANS) A Delhi Police constable who died after collapsing during protests against a gang-rape suffered a cardiac arrest after multiple injuries on his neck and chest, a post-mortem report released Wednesday said.
"The cause of (constable Subhash Chand Tomar's) death was multiple internal injuries produced with the impact of a blunt object on his neck and chest," Additional Commissioner of Police K.C. Dwivedi said.
"The cardiac arrest was precipitated by injuries to his body," he told reporters, basing his information on the post-mortem report.
"The report says myocardial infarction (heart attack) and its complications that could be precipitated by multiple ante-mortem injuries to the neck and chest by a blunt force impact," Dwivedi stated from the report.
"His ribs were broken and there were injuries on his legs," Dwivedi said, refusing to comment on the statement of doctors who said no injuries were found on Tomar's body when he was brought to hospital.
"I cant say whether he was a heart patient or not," he added.
Tomar, 47, died Tuesday at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. He was admitted to hospital Sunday after he collapsed at India Gate during protests against the brutal gang-rape of a 23-year-old woman by six men in a moving bus Dec 16 in south Delhi. She is battling for her life in Safdarjung Hospital.
All six accused have been arrested.
