Mumbai: A 35-feet-long whale, believed to weigh around 20 tons, washed up at the Juhu beach in Mumbai on Thursday night. The carcass was spotted by locals last night, who informed the authorities.
According to some reports, the whale may have died at any time in the last two days and beached shore.
"From initial examination, the whale seems to have died a day or two back. It bloated and was then carried in by the tide to the beach. We will deflate the carcass on the beach itself, otherwise it could explode," said Assistant Conservator of Forest (Mangroves Protection Cell) Makrand Ghodke to DNA.
Cranes have been called in to remove the remains.
