Karnataka embarked upon a twin exercise of gearing up its official machinery to provide succour to 7.62 lakh people sheltered in relief camps and launching a fund raising drive that yielded Rs 500 crore donation including Rs 300 crore from the IT hub of Bangalore.

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa along with his ministerial colleagues and legislators marched in busy commercial areas pleading with people to help those devastated by the worst natural calamity in north and coastal Karnataka that has claimed 221 lives.
The state's revenue department said 22 bodies had been recovered from Kaduwad near Karwar where a landslide buried eight houses.
With no roof over head, flood victims despair
In Andhra Pradesh, over 16,45,000 people have been affected by the floods. Officials said 3,66,138 people were taking shelter in 294 relief camps. Flood waters remained in only some villages in Krishna and Guntur districts and the water would recede fast, officials said. There were no fresh deaths and the toll in the state stood at 63.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would make an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka on October 9.
