Delhi Airport Metro to suspend service

The Delhi Metro or Delhi Airport Metro Express (DAME) service connecting the Indira Gandhi International Airport to Dwarka will close down from Sunday for an unspecified period for repair of cracks.

The Delhi Airport Metro Express, which a private public partnership between Reliance Infrastructure and the Delhi Metro, will suspend services for repair of some cracks in the civil structure and, reports said.

According to a Delhi Metro spokesperson, the service will be closed from Sunday indefinitely.

The Delhi Airport Metro Express (DAME) is a Delhi Metro line from New Delhi Metro Station to Dwarka Sector 21, linking the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The line, also known as the Orange line is operated by the Delhi Airport Metro Express Pvt. Limited (DAMEL), a subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure, the concessionaire of the line, and opened on February 23, 2011 after missing four previously set deadlines.

Reports earlier said the project is loss making so far owing to less travellers.

The Airport Express route consists of six stations namely New Delhi - Shivaji Stadium - Dhaula Kuan - Delhi Aerocity (Mahipalpur) - IGI Airport (T3 Terminal) - Dwarka Sec 21. New Delhi, Shivaji Stadium (CP) and Dhaula Kuan stations are having City Airport Terminal (CAT) facilities and are equipped with ticket counters and check-in facilities (including baggage check-in).
