Delhi International Airport (P) Limited (DIAL), the operator of the country's busiest and the second best airport in world in its category, has become the first airport in the world to secure BSA (Business Software Alliance) Certification in Standards-based Software Asset Management (SAM) for Organizations, a program known as CSS(O).

The first and only enterprise-level certification, CSS(O) affirms an entity is compliant with its software license agreements and its SAM processes are aligned to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) SAM standard.

Commenting on the development, I Prabhakara Rao, CEO DIAL, said: "We are extremely excited to mark another milestone by adopting world-class software asset management practices, which helps us improve safety, efficiency and other pertinent parameters for stakeholders.

"Moreover, this further differentiates our services, while simultaneously safeguarding all IT assets by preventing any security breaches."

Through this, DIAL has been able to regularize the usage of licenses and reduce costs by up to 20% for all software licenses.

A SAM team has also been established to manage efficient procurement of all software licenses, ensuring vendors can no longer short-change them on software prices.

Rao said: "New software requests are now considered in terms of functionality, instead of product specifications, and licenses are accordingly reused or purchased. This single practice has helped downsize yearly license costs by as much as 30%."

Recently, DIAL received the ISO 20000 certification for eliminating and controlling IT-related threats to its IT service management system, making it only the sixth airport in the world to receive this certification.

Delhi International Airport (P) Ltd (DIAL) is a joint venture company comprising the GMR Group, Airports Authority of India, Fraport and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad.

The project being developed by DIAL under Public Private Partnership has been given the mandate to finance, design, build, operate and maintain the Delhi Airport for 30 years with an option to extend it by another 30 years.
