New Delhi: A young woman returning home from a shopping mall was allegedly raped by three men in the National Capital Region (NCR)'s Ghaziabad on March 2, media reports said on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old girl was robbed and raped by the three men who were on a "joyride" on the auto, according to police officials who were quoted by the media. The incident occurred near Dasna in Ghaziabad.

Reports said the girl had shouted for help during a two and a half hour ride but neither cops nor anyone came for help.

When she flagged down for the auto at 8.30 pm that night, the Class 12 girl was told that the two men sitting in the back were passengers, which is not uncommon, as shared autos make travelling cheaper. She was convinced by the men to sit inbetween them, and after travelling 2kms from the mall, somewhere near Khoda colony, the men gagged her to prevent her from shouting for help.

The auto then sped on towards Ghaziabad city, driving through multiple check points. Once they reached Galand, they dragged the girl out, beat her up when she showed resistance and then took turns to rape her, a police official was quoted as saying to the Hindustan Times.

The three men then robbed the victim of her cash and cellphone and fled the spot at 10.30 pm.

The rape is shocking since police and administration had claimed increased patrolling after the brutal Delhi bus rape.

The girl was left bleeding on the road after the assault, reports said.

Two men were arrested and charged.
