Delhi HC grants bail to Bangaru Laxman

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday granted bail to former Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) president Bangaru Laxman in connection to a fictitious arms deal case.

The court granted him bail against a personal bond of Rs 50,000.

He is likely walk out of New Delhi's Tihar jail on Friday.

A Delhi court in April this year had sentenced Laxman to four-year imprisonment in the 2001 fictitious arms deal case.

He was also asked to pay a fine of Rs.1 lakh.

The special CBI court earlier pronounced him guilty of taking Rs 1 lakh bribe in 2001 and convicted him under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

In 2001, website had carried out a sting operation 'Operation Westend' where Laxman was caught on camera accepting bribe from a journalist disguised as an arms dealer.

Laxman resigned as the BJP president after the scandal.
