Police arrested four men for allegedly raping a woman in New Delhi who was rescued from a car with tinted windows, media reports said Thursday.

The car, that was driving in North Delhi with outlawed tinted windows, was spotted by a police van patrolling the area.

After the car evaded an attempt to flag it down, the car was finally stopped some time later.

Police found a woman inside who said she was raped by the four men in the car and rushed her to a hospital.

Preliminary medical reports confirmed sexual assault and the police arrested the four men.

According police sources, the woman knew one of the men who introduced her to the other three and then allegedly raped her.

The incident close on the heels of a national outcry following the gruesome gang-rape of a 23-year-old medical student on a moving bus in Delhi in December.

The woman, who was raped and brutalised with an iron rod by six men, died in a Singapore hospital from her injuries.
