Dense fog envelops Delhi, traffic hit

A thick blanket of fog enveloped the national capital late Wednesday, affecting road traffic in several areas.

'The fog was very dense late Wednesday and will remain so till tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon. The visibility level dropped to nearly 50 metres Wednesday night,' a weather official said.

Commuters had a tough time driving in the night due to the poor visibility.

'As I was returning home to Dwarka, the visibility was poor because of which vehicular movement had become very slow,' said Gautam Singh, a resident of Dwarka in southwest Delhi.

Said Bhuvan Bagga, a resident of east Delhi: 'It was difficult to drive near ITO area in the heavy fog.'

Earlier in the day, heavy fog had disrupted the air and rail traffic as well.

According to a Northern Railways spokesperson, 45 trains were cancelled, 35 re-scheduled and 24 delayed because of the weather conditions.
