General Secretary and Chief Spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Ravi Shankar Prasad has said that democracy is the only mean of running proper governance.

In the 84th Annual Business Sesssion and Annual General Meeting organized by Indian Chamber of Commerce on Saturday, to address a session on 'Would devolution of more powers to States lead to better governance?' the BJP spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP from Bihar said: "Indian diversity can only be ruled by democracy. India can be global only by democracy."

He also said that good governance is very important for the development of the country and for better governance powers should be devolved to the states.

"The growth of India will never be complete unless you adequately empower the state. If India has to grow, the states have to grow as well. They have to be supplementary and complimentary."

Speaking broadly about various subjects he also talked about the 2G scam and social empowerment.

Member of the Indian National Congress party Mani Shankar Aiyar, talking about the corruption in the country, said, "The only way to stop corruption is to transfer power from higher level to lower level. If you allow people to govern themselves the corruption will decrease."

"We are the only country in the world, which is democratic even before setting the idea of democracy."

The chief editor of 'India Today' and 'Headlines Today', M J Akbar, said: "The formation of the internal map of India was a long process. It began in 1950's, but continued, step by step, up till the formation of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. The process is yet not over. But, it is a democratic process."
