Kolkata, Dec 13 (IBNS) DHL, a leading logistics company, and Blue Dart Express Ltd., South Asia's premier courier, on Tuesday announced India's first end-to-end GoGreen Carbon Neutral Service across international and domestic markets.

This new service will provide customers in India with an environmentally responsible shipping option.

Powered by DHL and Blue Dart in India, the GoGreen Carbon Neutral Service will allow our customers to neutralize their carbon footprint by paying an offset charge over and above their shipping rates.

The offset charge will be calculated on shipment / weight and distance. Carbon emissions from customer shipments will be offset by reinvesting in environmental protection projects verified by SGS (Societe Generale de Surveillance), a United Nations independent auditor.

A certificate, verified by SGS, will be issued to the customer annually that will mention the total amount of CO2 offset per customer.

Malcolm Monteiro, SVP & Area Director - DHL Express, South Asia said, "This new GoGreen Carbon Neutral Service will allow customers to be our co-stakeholders in ensuring a cleaner, safer, environment and do their bit towards ensuring a carbon neutral shipment."

Keith Ulrich, Vice President - DHL Solutions & Innovations and Head of Research & Innovation Management, said, "Transportation and logistics industries are seen as key contributors to global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. As a globally operating transport and logistics provider we therefore strive for innovative solutions for today's challenges.

"This includes delivery concepts for mega cities, clean transport and environmentally friendly services alike. I therefore very much welcome today's green product launch for India."

The GoGreen Carbon Neutral Service will be available across all of Blue Dart-DHL's Express Service Offerings, including Domestic Priority, Dart Apex, Dart Surface Line and International products such as documents, parcels.

In 2010, DHL Express India claimed to have achieved 6.0 per cent improvement in carbon efficiency despite total CO2 increasing by 13.6 per cent as the economy boomed.

Blue Dart posted an improvement of 6.5 per cent year-on-year driven by stronger volumes, despite CO2 increasing by 18.5 per cent in 2010 versus 2009.

Despite increases in fuel consumption, carbon efficiencies were achieved by switching to cleaner fuels such as compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), said the company.
