New Delhi, Dec 29 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has sought lifting of restrictions on holding demonstrations in and around India Gate in memory of the gang-rape victim who passed away early Saturday.

An aide close to Dikshit said she was in favour of allowing peaceful demonstrations in and around India Gate.

He said the chief minister had spoken to union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde but declined to give details of the conversation.

Congress leader Anil Shastri also agreed with the chief minister that protestors should be allowed at India Gate.

"I agree with Delhi CM that protesters should be allowed at India Gate. Police must review its decision. Let govt see public anger," Shastri said on social site Twitter.

Police Saturday put up barricades in area around India Gate and placed the area out of bounds, both for traffic and the general public.

A large number of police personnel were deployed along the stretch connecting India Gate and Raisina Hill where large scale protests had been witnessed earlier.

On police request, Delhi Metro also announced the closure of 10 stations spread over three networks -- Yellow, Blue and Violet.
