DPS Kolkata wins Limca Book of Records Quiz

New Delhi, Dec 13 (IBNS) The Delhi Public School (DPS)-Kolkata team of Arunavha Chanda and Mitul Dey Chowdhury prevailed over teams from Sherwood College- Nainital, and New Era Public School-New Delhi, to emerge as the Champions of the National Finals of the Limca Book of Records Quiz 2011.

The quiz finals, organized on Tuesday in New Delhi, was hosted by quiz master Derek O´ Brien and involved participation from 10 finalist teams who battled it out to win the coveted National Quiz championship.

The winners were felicitated by the Chief Guest, Justice J.S Verma, Former Chief Justice of India and Atul Singh, President & CEO, Coca-Cola India & South West Asia.

Justice J.S Verma, Former Chief Justice of India said: "Initiatives like these are an ideal platform for students since it enhances their awareness around a variety of subjects and also stimulates their creative thinking."

The team of Arunavha Chanda and Mitul Dey Chowdhury from Delhi Public School-Kolkata was declared the National Champions.



Not far behind were Sherwood College-Nainital and New Era Public School-New Delhi, who emerged as the 1st and the 2nd runners up respectively.

Also present was Limca Book of Records record-holder Aditi Singhal, who enthralled the students with a quick demonstration of her memory prowess.

Aditi holds the record for memorizing 210 binary digits and recalling them with 100% accuracy in 2 minutes 26 seconds.

The multi-city initiative launched in partnership with 'Know & Grow with Derek' involved participation of young minds from classes 8 to 12. As part of the initiative, a series of quiz competitions were organized in over 3800 schools across 80 cities over 6 months starting July.

According to Atul Singh, President & CEO, Coca-Cola India & South West Asia, "We value the response and encouragement to this quiz contest we would like to further scale up the initiative with each passing year. I congratulate the winners and all the participating teams for making this initiative truly successful and exciting."

Limca Book of Records Quiz 2011 was organized to promote knowledge and awareness amongst the young minds of the country.

According to Derek O'Brien, renowned quizmaster and founder, 'Derek O'Brien & Associates, "This year, the quiz was organized at an even larger scale, spanning across 3800 schools in 80 cities. The initiative is a great platform to impart knowledge, to promote learning, and to help young minds ´Know & Grow´. I am delighted at the response that we have received from students across the country."
