Caracas, April 4 (IANS/EFE) Gustavo Dudamel and Venezuela's Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra are on a tour of Argentina, Brazil and Colombia, the orchestra's programming chief, Carolina Marquez, said.

The 32-year-old conductor and the orchestra's nearly 300 members made their first stop Wednesday at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Marquez told EFE.

The "Latin American Tour for Life and Peace" will continue with concerts next Saturday and Sunday at the Sala Sao Paolo in Sao Paolo, Brazil.

The orchestra will perform April 9 at Brasilia's Teatro Nacional.

Dudamel will conduct the orchestra April 11 at the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo in Bogota.

The five concerts will feature performances of Igor Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring", Silvestre Revueltas's La Noche de los Mayas and Ludwig van Beethoven's powerful "Fifth Symphony", Marquez said.

Orchestra members will also offer music workshops in the communities they are visiting.
