The Election commission on Saturday found Rs 1 lakh in the possession of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati during a campaign rally in Karnataka.
A "flying squad" of the election commission on Saturday carried out an inspection of Mayawati´s helicopter after it landed on the outskirts of the taluk headquarters town of Jewargi in Gulbarga district.
The officials found Rs 1 lakh in cash from her bag, which however was not seized after she explained it belonged to her supporters who were accompanying her.
Later she was once again searched along with her car when she was climbing the dais put up for her party´s public meeting ahead of the May 5 election in Jewargi.
An infuriated Mayawati accused the officials of being casteist and said, "Have you checked Sonia Gandhi and Sushma Swaraj when they came for campaigning? You are searching me because I am a Dalit woman?"
