Panaji, Jan 06 (IBNS) The Election Commission of India (ECI) has come down heavily on the state government's recruitment spree as it raided the health department and seized bunch of 'acceptance letters'.
EC's flying squad raided the premise following inputs that a group of job aspirants had queued up at the department's office to submit 'acceptance letters' in reply to the offer letters which were supposedly backdated to circumvent model code of conduct.
In the two hour raid which was video-recorded, the flying squad officials confiscated 18 letters of acceptance and equal number of appointment letters.
Collector Mihir Vardhan told the media that the letters of appointment were dispatched to the candidates on December 22, 2011 asking them to give their acceptance by January 16.
The selected candidates who submitted their acceptance letters were for the posts of drivers, attendants, field workers and ward boys.
The code of conduct came into force on December 24, 2011 and one of its guidelines states that recruitment process be stalled during this period, which many departments have not adhered to.
