Economic gloom affecting V-Day mood: Survey

Kolkata, Feb 12 (IBNS) February 14th has always held a special place in the minds of every individual in love. Love birds across the globe have exotic plans for this day.

However this year the dampened economic sentiment seems to have impacted the mindset of the youth as proved by a recent survey done by matrimonial site Jeevansathi.com. 44% boys and 34% girls said that the ongoing slowdown will affect their plans for the special day.

This trend was more prevalent in metros where about 50% males said that this year they have trimmed down their Valentine´s Day plans.

When asked about how they could make this day memorable, 76% respondents said that they would love to plan their engagement/wedding day coinciding on the same date. The survey saw participation of over 2,500 members of Jeevansathi.com.

Commenting on the trend, Rohit Manghnani, Business Head, Jeevansathi.com, said: "Low increments and slower promotions within organizations has made the youngsters more practical. However, this may not dampen the celebrations for the day as it holds a lot of importance in the lives of young couples, the spends will not be over-indulgent."

Gifting still remains the main ingredient of love on this day. Interestingly the time tested flowers still emerges as the most preferred gifts by girls with 43% opting for the same.

Dinner dates and jewellery take the second and third spot with 22% and 20% voting for the same.

Gadgets and apparels take a back seat over a candle light dinner when it comes to preferences of boys. Quality time with the loved one is what entices them more than any gifted item, as per the survey.
