Iconic Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar hit a crucial half century against England on the first day of the third Test match against the visitors at Eden Gardens here on Wednesday.
Sachin, who had failed to perform with the willow recently, scored 76 runs before he was dismissed by English pacer James Anderson.
Sachin hit 13 boundaries in his 155-ball knock.
The fall of Sachin´s wicket gave a massive blow to India as the first innings scorecard showed 238 runs for the loss of six wickets after 78 overs.
Skipper MS Dhoni (12*) and R Ashwin (2) are on the crease at present.
India have lost the wickets of Gautam Gambhir (60), Virender Sehwag (23), Cheteshwar Pujara (16), Virat Kohli (6) and Yuvraj Singh (32) in the innings.
Anderson and Monty Panesar have picked up two wickets each for England while Graeme Swann has scalped one wicket.
India won the toss and elected to bat.
The home team brought pacer Ishant Sharma back into the playing 11 after more than 10 months replacing off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, who is down with flu.
England and India are now placed 1-1 in the series.
