Elephants run amok at Thrissur and Guruvayur

Thrissur: An elephant returning after participating in the 'Aanayoottu' (mass feeding of elephants) at the Vadakkunnathan temple here on Saturday morning, ran amok and damaged some vehicles at nearby Poothole.

Police said the elephant, Vadakkunthan Krishnan, was brought under control after nearly an hour by veterinarians from the Kerala Agricultural University here.

It hit a car before it was brought under control, police said.

None was injured.

In the temple town of Guruvayur, 'Krishna', an elephant donated by AIADMK leader and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, attacked another elephant which had been tethered and was undergoing treatment for 'musth' at the elephant shelter. The mahouts brought the elephant under control, police added.
