Faces of a changing Greenland

Life in Greenland is changing, driven in good part by a changing climate.

On this island off the central west coast, families for centuries relied on hunting — for seal, walrus, narwhal and beluga whale — and fishing for sustenance and livelihoods. But a warming climate has thinned the winter sea ice, weakening what has long been a crucial platform for hunters and fishermen during half the year.
