Mumbai: Maharashtra ATS on Tuesday claimed to have busted an international fake currency racket with the arrest of two persons from Uttar Pradesh and recovery of counterfeit notes with a face value of Rs 10 lakh.
Acting on a tip off, a team of ATS officials laid a trap near Preetam hotel in Dadar where Nadeem Ahmed Rangrez (35) and Aarif Ahmed Rangrez (35) -- both distant relatives, arrived on Monday.
The two were rounded up and upon frisking, high quality counterfeit notes in 500 denominations, with a face value of Rs 10 lakh, were found in their possession, Deputy Police Commissioner (ATS) Pradeep Sawant told PTI.
"The duo came here to hand over the notes to their associate on the instructions from their handler in West Bengal. The handler had brought the fake notes from Bangladesh," he said.
The accused were remanded in police custody till December 28 by a local court, the officer said, adding further probe was on.
