"Families living on riverbed should be relocated"

West Midnapore (West Bengal), Jan 15 (IBNS) West Bengal Irrigation & Waterways Minister Manas Ranjan Bhunia has said families living on riverbed should be relocated.

He said Rs.650 crores has been allocated for flood controlling measures on Chandia-Kapaleshwari-Keleghai rivers in Sabang block of West Bengal´s West Midnapore district.

Bhunia was here to inaugurate 26th Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign (PIC) at Chhotokhelna Surendra Smriti Vidyamandir at Pingla on Saturday.

He said people living on the Chandia riverbed should immediately be shifted from there for proper implementation of the project.

The Executive Engineer of the Department has been urged to take the necessary steps in this regard, he said.

He pointed out that after completion of this project, not only flood control measures will be benefited, but irrigation facility also will be improved.

About Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY), Bhunia said, in the next two years 38,000 rural families of the state will be provided with the electric connection.



Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee herself is giving highest priority on this, he said.

Bhunia also said that elaborate arrangements have been made to supply purified drinking water to all rural families.
